Mahiri African Tours was co-founded by Tanzanian-born local guide Hillary Lyimo and avid Canadian traveller Shannon Gorham. They have built a friendship over their love of wildlife and a partnership over the goal of sharing the vast diversity this country offers to people from all over the world.
Mahiri African Tours is based at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro in Moshi town, specializing in wildlife safaris and mountain trekking. We have a love for this country and want to show you the unspoiled beauty it has to offer, from the plains of the Serengeti to the glaciers of Mount Kilimanjaro.
All tours are easily customizable to fit any budget, from budget-friendly camping safaris to luxurious fly-in safaris. We have the experience to know how to make your Tanzania experience a memorable one.
An essential part of the company is supporting and giving back to the local community. We support the local community in the region through numerous NGOs and social enterprises. Each tour allows us to continue supporting and making a difference in the region.
Born on the slopes of Kilimanjaro, Hillary has been a guide in Tanzania for over 15 years, with experience on both Mount Kilimanjaro and wildlife safaris. At a young age, Hillary volunteered in the Ngorongoro region, although he left to follow another path in life. He always remembered the time he spent in the Ngorongoro region, which brought him back 15 years ago, where he has been able to pursue his passion and share this with people from all over the world. His experience as a mountain and safari guide for over 15 years brings a vast amount of knowledge and connections he has throughout the industry, allowing us to provide you with unforgettable experiences while in Tanzania.
Shannon is both a nurse and an avid traveller. After spending many years revisiting Tanzania, she started Mahiri African Tours with Hillary as a way to offer and allow everyone at any budget to experience what Tanzania has to offer. Having spent many years travelling around the country, she has a good understanding of the industry and prioritizes the importance of knowledgeable guides, reliable safari vehicles, well-planned itineraries, and safe experiences on Mount Kilimanjaro.
She makes it a priority that the company supports the local people through sustainable NGOs, which she has personally spent time getting to know, ensuring fundamental differences are being made in the community.
Returning to Tanzania numerous times a year, she travels throughout the country to understand better each adventure we offer, so she can provide a different perspective that allows for personalized recommendations that can be a valuable resource for travellers.
We have the experience to know how to make your Tanzania experience a memorable one, whether it is on the plains of the Serengeti or trekking next to a glacier on Mount Kilimanjaro.
