On the slopes of Kilimanjaro is Materuni village, where the Materuni waterfall is located. On this day trip, we will drive to the village and hike for about 45 minutes to the Materuni waterfalls. The hike walks through the local village with locals going about their day. The waterfall has breathtaking views, and remember to bring your swimsuit if you are brave enough to swim at the waterfall’s base. But it is cold, as the water directly comes from the glaciers on Mount Kilimanjaro.
After visiting the waterfall, we will stop at a local coffee farm, where you can learn how to roast a cup of coffee, starting from picking the beans and ending with a perfectly brewed cup. The slopes of Kilimanjaro produce some of the best coffee in Africa, which is a great way to understand the Chagga culture better. After enjoying your coffee tour, we will have traditional Chagga lunch in the village. With the opportunity to try the commonly drank local banana beer.
